German Beer Week is an annual celebration of the history and culture of the greatest beer in the world. Brewed beverages have been enjoyed since the 5th millennium BC and beverages similar to beer are recorded in the written history of Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. However, a clear definitive declaration of what makes a beer was not set forth until 1516. On April 23 William IV, Duke of Bavaria, ordered that the ingredients of beer be restricted to water, barley, and hops; yeast was added to the list after Louis Pasteur’s discovery in 1857.  (The brewing of wheat beers was limited to Ducal privilege at the time.)  With this singular act German Beer was born.

In today’s American landscape of microbrewing madness, many brews wouldn’t even pass as “Beer” under the German definition. Thus we choose to celebrate all that is true, great and pure about German Beer and the people, fun, food, music and culture that go along with it. Please join us for one or more of these great events over the course of the week and celebrate German Beer!

Beer DinnerGerman Beer Pairing Dinner

German Beer Week 2014 kicks off at the Old German Beer Hall with German Beer Dinner featuring the beers of Hofbräu Munich, Schwaben Bräu and Dinkel Acker. S&H Independent Premium Brands will be on hand to guide us through the beer pairings.

Dinner will feature a multi-course feast from our very own Tony Meyer. Not to worry, this is not one those “high-brow” events that has you stopping at the drive through to eat on the way home.  The menu will feature food for beer drinkers.
